Overview

Hefei University of Technology is one of the earlier institutions in China to set up the major of architecture. The college of Architecture and Art was founded in 1958, it was affiliated to the Department of Architectural Engineering.

The college is the vice chairman of the Architectural Education Branch of the Architectural Society of China, the executive council member of the Traditional Architecture Branch of the China Engineering & Consulting Association, the supporting institution of the Anhui Industrial Design Association and the chairman of the Anhui University Photography Association.

The college is located in the Yifu Building for Architecture & Art on the Feicui Located in the Feicui Lake Campus with the GFA more than 30,000 m² ,Yifu Building for Architecture & Art contains a variety of professional classrooms, laboratories, teachers' studios, multimedia classrooms, exhibitions space, lecture hall, library and administrative offices, creating a favorable environment for teaching and scientific research.

The college offers 6 undergraduate programs: Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Landscape Architecture, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design and Industrial Design.

Our college offers four research degrees (Ph.D. of Architecture and Master of Architecture, Master of Urban and Rural Planning, Master of Arts) and four professional degrees (Master of Architecture Studies, Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Industrial Design).

Architecture is a National key major, and Architecture Design Theories is a Provincial key discipline.

In 1996, the major of architecture (bachelor and master) passed the national discipline evaluation for the first time, and in 2008, 2015 and 2023, it passed the evaluation with excellent grade. The major of urban and rural planning passed the national discipline evaluation in 2017.

Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, Environmental Design and Industrial Design were selected into the first batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Majors Construction Sites. “Public Architecture Design” and “Urban Design” was identified as provincial-level quality courses.

There are three research platforms: architectural technology and urban space environment technology, archi tectural environment behavior and ergonomics, public plastic arts and model design.

Our college also have several research centers and institutes, such as the Institute of Architectural Traditional Decoration Technology. CHINA-UK Eco-City and Sustainable Development Research Center (co-built with Cardiff University), Intelligent Elderly Care International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, National prefabricated Building Industry Base, Anhui Hui Architecture Engineering Technology Research Center (co-built), Anhui Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences, Urban and Rural Construction and Planning Institute, Cultural Creativity and Scientific and Technological Innovation Research Center, Green Building Design Research Institute, the Institute of Architectural Traditional Decoration Technology and so on.

In terms of student training, the college attaches great importance to the cultivation of innovative ability, the formation of creative thinking system, the integration of interdisciplinary disciplines, the cultivation of students' artistic accomplishment and the study of regional culture, continually consolidating our teaching vantage.

Centering on the concept of“Moral cultivation & Excellent in both performing skills and moral integrity“ ,student activities carried out on campus and formed a number of brand activities, such as " Annual Outdoor Architecture & Art Exhibition” and "Red Moon Art Class”. The Youth League Committee of the College has won the honorary title of "Anhui May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee".

Students have won many outstanding achievements in top international and domestic competitions, such as UIA International student competition in architectural design , Chinese Residential Environment Design Academic Year Award, Red Dot Award, National University Student Architectural Design Operation Observation and Selection, Asian Contest of Architectural Rookie's Award, National University Student Urban Planning Professional Design Competition, National University Student Landscape Architecture Design Competition, National University Student Advertising Art Competition, National graduation design works of Industrial Design selection competition, National Graduate Smart City Technology and Creative Design Competition, and Anhui "Double Hundred" Competition.

More than 35 percent of undergraduates take the entrance exam for graduate school and go abroad for their further education.

The College actively carries out foreign exchanges and cooperation, and has established good friendly cooperation and relations with many famous universities, like the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries and regions.

For example, we have launched the "1+2" Double Degree and Joint Supervision Program with Cardiff University, and has carried out exchange programs with Fengjia University, Yishou University, Yunlin University of Science and Technology and many other universities in Taiwan.

Since its establishment more than 60 years ago, the college has been adhering to the university motto of Pursuing virtue and knowledge, seeking truth and innovation, adhering to the school spirit of "diligence, rigor, trust-seeking and innovation", and carrying forward the glorious tradition of "hard work, unremitting self-improvement, pursuit of excellence, and scaling to Great Heights, and has made great progress in student training, scientific research, discipline construction, international exchanges, design practice and other aspects, nurturing a great number of talents for the field of architecture and design.

Among the graduates, more than 10 alumni are currently or once served as deans and academic leaders in the college of architecture at university,, 14 alumni have won the Young architect award of Architectural Society of China, 4 alumni were selected as one of the 100 Architects of Contemporary China, 1 alumnus has been selected as fellow of the Academician group of American Institute of Architects and nearly 20 alumni have been selected as masters of Engineering & Consulting industries in various provinces, more alumni have grown into the head and technical backbone of well-known design institutions at home and abroad.
