This study focuses on the Huizhou region, where research and analysis were conducted on more than 20 villages to extract the elements that constitute the architectural characteristics of Huizhou vernacular dwellings. The investigation encompassed the layout, façade forms, and intricate architectural decorations, ultimately revealing the primary elements and underlying patterns that define the vernacular charm of Huizhou residences. This research significantly broadens the scope of architectural element studies. To systematize, visualize, expand, and replicate the findings, the methodology employed the use of semantic ontology, leading to the creation of the "Huizhou Vernacular Architecture Semantic Description System." This system exhibits features such as systematic organization, visual representation, scalability, and reproducibility. Furthermore, the study explores approaches to regional vernacular dwelling preservation and the construction of semantic databases for future updates.
